Just “Browsing” — 3 Steps to Finding the Right Permanent Makeup Artist
When you contemplate permanent makeup, a big part of the decision isn’t simply what goes on your face, but who puts it there. Building a relationship with a permanent makeup (PMU) artist is a personal choice and depends on a number of factors. Below, we list the top three things to consider when looking for your “significant other.”
1. Do your research.
Read reviews. Book a consultation, either by phone or in-person. Your PMU artist should have a full portfolio of recent work, including before and after images. It’s especially important to see images of healed brows so you can see how they look beyond the microblading session.
Is the studio well-lit? Does it look and smell clean? Do you feel at ease when you walk through the door? First impressions are everything.
If they aren’t already available or on the wall, ask to see the artists’ accreditation, certification and licenses identifying regional and statewide safety standards.
2. Heed her advice.
A PMU artist is a professional. She will tell you what’s possible, what’s appropriate and what’s realistic. Heed her advice!
She’ll listen to you and take your emotional temperature. You should like your artist not only as a professional but as a person. Does the PMU artist rub you the wrong way or refuse to answer your questions? Move on.
She should walk you through every step of the procedure – before, during and after – so there are no surprises.
3. Show and Tell.
Your artist-to-be should show you her workspace, tools and supplies. All equipment should be disposable and sterile.
She will give you comprehensive and detailed aftercare information. She’ll walk you through the steps required to keep your new brows clean, beautiful and free of irritation.
She’ll be accessible post-procedure to answer any questions or concerns.
With research and due diligence, the relationship between you and your professional makeup artist will last as long as your beautiful new brows.
